Indonesia AQUACULTURE MARKET

Indonesia’s aquaculture industry is highly distinctive. It is one of the world’s largest producers of grouper and an important eel farming base. Sea bream, traditionally a “festive fish” in Indonesian cuisine, has now become a significant farmed species. Tilapia is its most crucial freshwater aquaculture fish, while catfish is a core ingredient in Indonesian street food. Additionally, Indonesia is the world’s leading exporter of tropical ornamental fish, with varieties like guppies and angelfish renowned globally.
The large-scale farming of these species has driven demand for fish feed, making the establishment of local feed processing plants highly promising.
Firstly, Indonesia’s aquaculture sector is growing rapidly, with government support for upgrading the feed industry. Secondly, demand for specialized local feed is expanding quickly, yet there’s a clear supply-demand gap.
Moreover, Indonesia’s central location in Southeast Asia ensures relatively abundant raw material supplies and convenient logistics, enabling it to serve both domestic markets and neighboring countries.
For feed companies seeking overseas expansion, Indonesia offers not only a large and fast-growing market but also a prime entry window.
Thus, whether building single-species feed plants or multi-functional facilities covering fish, shrimp, and ornamental fish, Indonesia presents compelling investment value and development potential.
CLIENT PROJECT DETAILS
The “5-ton/hour Floating & Sinking Fish Feed Production Line” project is being established in Indonesia by a foreign investor. After more than six months of research on the Indonesian fish feed market, he discovered significant growth potential in the local aquaculture industry.
After deciding to invest in building a factory in Indonesia, this client searched among multiple suppliers of fish feed production equipment. He had a good understanding of feed technology himself, knowing that different fish require feeds with different properties. Also considering overall costs, he wanted a pelletizing machine capable of producing both floating and sinking feeds, and needed a complete, mature, and stable integrated solution rather than purchasing standalone machines.
After extensive searching, he came across our equipment advertisement, visited the RICHI website, and left an inquiry. The operations team promptly organized the request and arranged for a sales manager to connect with him. Through several rounds of communication, the client gradually recognized the professionalism and attention to detail of our RICHI team.
Ultimately, after thoroughly comparing equipment performance, solution maturity, and after-sales service commitments, he chose to sign a contract with RICHI, entrusting us with the construction of the entire 5-ton/hour floating and sinking fish feed production line.

CUSTOM-TAILORED SOLUTION
When designing the feed production process, our engineers specifically considered the pain points and needs of our clients and proposed a tailor-made solution.
Key discussion topics between our engineers and the investor included—

For floating fish feed: What desired duration of flotation? Any specific density requirements?

For sinking fish feed: Do you have standards for sinking speed and pellet hardness?

Should pellet diameter and length be standardized, or adjusted separately based on fish species?

What is your approximate total investment budget? Are energy consumption and maintenance costs within acceptable limits? Are there plans for future capacity expansion or adding new product varieties?
The finalized floating & sinking fish feed production line primarily includes the following parts:
Pre-processing System
Engineers design the layout of raw material and additive bins based on the customer’s formula. They also install cleaning equipment to remove impurities like metal or stones from entering the production line.
01
Crushing System
Different fish species and pellet sizes require different grinding fineness. Engineers select specific grinding screens depending on whether floating or sinking feed is being produced.
02
Mixing System
This system uniformly mixes all ground ingredients, vitamins, minerals, dicalcium phosphate, betaine, etc., according to the formula.
03
Extrusion System
This is the core of the production line, used for making both floating and sinking pellets. Engineers will equip it with suitable extruder dies, cutter combinations, and a conditioning system.
04
Drying System
Used to remove moisture from the extruded pellets, bringing them to a safe level for storage. This stage pays special attention to controlling energy consumption and ensuring product consistency.
05
Spraying System
High temperatures during extrusion can destroy some fats and additives. The coating system adds these back, improving palatability, energy content, and nutritional value.
06
Cooling & Screening System
Hot, dried pellets must be cooled quickly to prevent moisture absorption and clumping. A screener then separates out dust and oversized particles. Substandard material is sent back for reprocessing.
07
Packaging System
Quality-checked feed is weighed, packaged, and sewn shut as per customer requirements. The system ensures stable weighing accuracy and allows for easy switching between packaging sizes for different feed types.

Installation, Commissioning, and Training
After the equipment arrives at the customer’s project site, we offer flexible installation support options: You can install it yourself or have our engineers assist on-site.
For this project, the client chose to have our engineers assist with the installation and commissioning on-site. After the feed production line was installed, our engineers provided systematic training for their staff, covering equipment operation, daily maintenance, and process management.
CLIENT evaluation and project fUTURE
The production line project is not yet fully completed, but the client has already provided feedback on our services:
“My goal was clear: I needed a 5 T/H production line that could handle both floating and sinking feed. i had tried local equipment before, but it wasn’t ideal for controlling flotation time, density, or formula compatibility.
What surprised me about RICHI’s proposal wasn’t just the equipment itself, but how well their engineers understood the process. They provided specific recommendations for different fish species (like grouper, sea bream, tilapia, and catfish), detailing everything from grinding fineness to die combinations and coating strategies.
Throughout the entire project, the process was transparent. I received progress photos and videos at every stage, so I always knew what was happening and never had to worry.”

Indonesia Floating & Sinking Fish Feed Production Line: Value and Trend
As multi-species farming expands in Indonesia, production lines that can make both floating and sinking feed are becoming the mainstream choice.
This flexible and efficient model will give investors higher capacity utilization and faster market returns.
Types of feed suitable for production in Indonesia
As an archipelagic nation with vast waters and rapid population growth, Indonesia centers its feed sector on aquaculture feed and poultry feed. While smaller in scale, ruminant feed also offers growth opportunities.
(1)Aquaculture Feed
This is Indonesia’s most critical, fastest-growing, and profitable segment.
Shrimp Feed
Indonesia ranks among the world’s top shrimp producers. High-quality sinking pellets for Litopenaeus vannamei are an absolute necessity and highly competitive.
Tilapia/Catfish Feed
These fish provide mainstream protein for local consumers—demand is massive. Sinking or slow-sinking expanded pellets dominate production volume here.
Grouper/Sea Bass Feed
Rising demand for high-value marine species follows offshore cage culture expansion; expanded pellets lead this trend.
Channa striata Feed
A prized local predatory fish—developing dedicated feed could tap into unmet market potential.
(2)Poultry Feed
Indonesia’s most mature livestock sector demands consistent quality at scale.
Broiler Feed
Requires phase-specific formulations (starter, grower, finisher), primarily based on corn & soybean meal.
Layer Feed
Split into grower and layer phases; precise mineral (Ca, P) and amino acid balance is essential.
(3)Ruminant Feed
Poultry industry is the most mature animal husbandry industry in Iran, and the demand for feed has been great and stable.
Beef Cattle Supplement feed
Concentrates paired with palm kernel cake/cassava residue accelerate weight gain on large-scale lots.
Dairy Cow Concentrate Feed
Target dairy farms near cities to boost milk yields.
